Redcar Sound Mirror
Built around 1916 to detect approaching Zeppelins, now sits surrounded by houses but safe due to being a scheduled ancient monument.
The base of the column where the listening trumpet was mounted is a few feet in front of the mirror.

There’s a good few of these round where my folks live and I remember investigating them with my Dad when I was a nipper. Nice idea but made obsolete by radar not long after they were built.

I went to see this today it is really good i am 15yrs old and glad things like this still are still around. ALEX B
